| This site is still being developed, and I am an absolote newbie beginner, so any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. My name is Lisa Quain and I am writing a book called TOO MUCH WATER. This little simple to read and understand book will change your attitude to water propaganda, and open your eyes to the real issues and hopefully enable a way to change the way the whole world looks at this worldwide catastrophic problem of Too Much Water. Kevin Costner's movie "WaterWorld" is a premonition of things to come. As a planet, if we don't act urgently, we will soon have far worse problems facing us than a supposed crisis of not enough water. What we will have is not enough land ! TOO MUCH WATER The media bombards us with all the hype about water shortages, and water restrictions. What astounds me is the fact that we are so badly mismanaging it, wasting it, while at the same time, we fail to harvest the excess. A very clear example is right now 60% of Queensland is under water, yet in a few months there will be farmers crying drought ! It just does not make sense to me ! Consider these following well known facts; Between 70% and 80% of the planet's surface is covered in water. Our deepest oceans are deeper than our highest mountains. With global warming, and the polar ice caps melting, the oceans are getting up to 2 inches deeper per year, and on the rise faster than the scientists previously thought. The balance of nature has been disturbed by the mass defoliation of the planet. Its up to us now to repair some of the damage done to the planet, and start replanting what was raped from the land by our fore-bearers that did not know the consequences of their actions. Trees make the rain by sucking the groundwater and turns it into clouds that produce the rain, less trees equals less rainfall. Because of the " lighter " air due to less moisture in the air, there has been more cyclones and tornadoes. These weather pattens have produced extreme flood droughts and fires. Lack of rain and water to grow crops is causing starvation in poor countries, and reducing the amount of produce grown and exported, worldwide. Tap water from environmentally destructive expensive dams, has up to 22 different very toxic chemicals and heavy metals including lead, cadmium, hydrochloric acid, caustic soda, chlorine bleach, fluoride, plus there is a very real danger of deadly viruses and diseases becoming so widespread that it could easily have a catastrophic effect on our planet and the people. THIS MAJOR WORLDWIDE CRISIS IS CURABLE WE SHOULD BE USING DESALINATED TOTALLY CHEMICAL FREE OCEAN WATER To reduce the global warming, the massive areas of heavily timbered regions that have been cleared in the last 200 years in Australia needs to be re vegetated and turned back into heavy forest as it once was. this will help to produce more clouds, and slow down the wind speeds with the heavier rain producing clouds the public then needs to be given as much water a possible and strongly encouraged to grow plants and well water their gardens, as the lush greenery produces moisture in the air that contributes to more rainfall. For collecting inland water from rain runoff, submersible pumps should be put in deep points in rivers. This will also save much time, effort, expense, miles of irrigation pipes, as along rivers there can be lots of shorter irrigation pipes, enabling a larger area to be irrigated, there fore allowing more areas for fertile food production. For inland salt lakes, just filter the salty brackish water via solar powered reverse osmosis, and if not needed for irrigation, it can be filtered and just pumped back into the salt lake, thus reducing the salinity, and reversing the damage done by over clearing, and turn the spoilt land back into fertile productive land again. To help produce rain near the coast, boil or steam ocean water, via solar power, to create steam to carry the rain inland on the ocean breezes. The heavier moister air will slow down the wind force, that will reduce the amount and intensity of cyclones and tornadoes. The re vegetation of central Australia, where it has already been cleared, will change the climate so our summers will be cooler, and winters warmer, and the severe weather patterns will become more stable. A simple and easy way of seeing the amount of water trees suck up from the ground and transpire into the air is to look at some hills in the distance, the hills with lots of trees you will see the haze of the mist going up, on the hills where there is no trees there will be no misty haze. With the huge imbalance of population on the planet, if there is a land shortage, why not create " floating cities" these floating cities can be built from recycled waste such as tyres, plastics or scrap metal, then soil can be recycled composted green waste, and sand or soil that is dredged from rivers or dug out for dams. Another option is to relocate soil from mining activities. To assist re vegetating the huge areas that have been cleared in Australia, raw sewerage that is pumped into ocean now, should be dumped inland and used for organic nutrient to feed the new forests. To avoid the release of dangerous diseases, this raw sewerage needs to be buried and composted to quite some time before it is safer for use. Climate Change To reduce pollution we must re vegetate the areas of the planet that were once heavy thick rain forest The moist laden air it creates heavier slower air that will reduce the fast damaging dry winds. By changing to a fuel that does not cause so much emission will have a great effect. Alternative Energy magnetic energy, solar power, wind power, tidal power, hydro electrics and so many more forms of energy we do not look at or concider, as there is not enough economic gain from it for it to be developed. Rain Making Using solar power, steam ocean water, if huge amounts of steam are created, it will create a cloud cover, that will fall as rain inland if the wind is blowing inland. These "steamers" can be used as either covered to collect the pure distilled water for use as fresh drinking water, or when uncovered they produce rain. Agro Forestry/ Timber/ Paper Production We need to shift to alternatives to Paulownia, Pine or alternative plantations and NEVER ever should we be allowed to cut down old growth forests for paper. We can easily produce more faster by using hemp forests inter planted with a very fast growing hardwood tree like Paulownia. An interesting fact about hemp for paper production, 1 acre of hemp will supply the same amount of pulp as 4.1 acres of trees, so with hemp and Paulownia inter-planted, the production could be as high as 1 acre providing more pulp than 5 or 6 acres of the trees they use now for pulp production. Tasmanian blue gums Tagasaste and salt bush can also be inter planted together to create a multi use grazing/ cropping area for stock, this creates a major win/win/win for the farmer, as the land will be less prone to erosion, the soil will build organic matter instead of depleting it, while producing more stock food, drought proofed paddocks, timber for extra $$$ or for building, and far better quality fatter stock, with better reproduction and mortality of stock because of the added "comforts" from having the shade from sun and added shelter from rain and wind. Simple Water Saving Recycle shower and bath water to re use in washing machine, then washing machine water can be re-used in toilet cistern to flush toilet with, shower and washing water can easily be re-used as garden water, easiest done by using old vacuum cleaner hoses from washing machine out let hose to where you want it. During a heavy down pour, put out buckets or containers out to fill. Plant a herb garden close to the kitchen, wash dishes in a bowl, and tip water on the herbs. Where you have a lots of rain water run off on your property, such as along driveway, sink a large container to collect it, and water your garden with it when it has not rained. By simply putting a large barrel or a small tank under down pipes on a house or shed will collect water for the garden, by simply placing a 44 gal drum raised up on a few bricks under the down pipe and a dripper or a soaker hose attached to the bottom of the drum, you can have a small vegetable or herb patch automatically watered without any effort. Water collection in times and areas of very heavy rainfall, huge tankers can be anchored off shore to collect rainwater. Huge amounts of water are washed out into the ocean from rivers, and from storm water run off from the roads, and nothing is done to preserve some of this water for irrigation, there is no reason why submersible pumps cant collect some of this and transport it inland till needed. Wasted resources In Australia, every year millions of dollars are spent and lost on what is called an environmental disaster, "rabbits" There is a huge cost in giving rabbits diseases like myxomatosis and calicivirus that cause the animals to die horrible and agonising deaths, and then the meat and fur is just left to rot and be wasted, quite foolish and senseless really when we should be eating the meat, which is an extremely healthy, no cholesterol, no fat, and no hormone or chemicals fed to them. In fact we should look at rabbits as a natural resource that replenish themselves. The major benefits to this are, the is no set up or management costs. They don't need to be fed as they self feed, but giving feed for a few weeks before trapping will bring more and fatter rabbits. Then the furs could be used to get a tanning industry running well enough to export rabbit fur coats, rabbit fur jackets, rabbit for bedspreads, rabbit fur gloves, rabbit fur hats, rabbit fur cushions, the list could go on and on. When the animal activists and greenies get on their band wagons about the cruelty to animals and against wearing fur, they need to be reminded that as it is now they are culled but poisoning them to die an agonising death, and all that is good and usable is wasted, at least this way they will die a quick painless death and all is not in vain as they provide food and clothing. Even if the Aussies are too fussy to eat rabbit, we can at least export the meat, and sell it cheap to the countries where there is food shortages. A tanning industry can easily be started by using sentenced prisoners, or people that owe money for fines for the labor work. Kangaroo's are the same as rabbits, they become such a problem with there being too many in places, that they have to be culled, they are killed and left to waste, just like rabbits. Australia should be tanning the kangaroo skins and exporting them all over the world as kangaroo floor rugs, kangaroo coats, jackets, seat covers, and a multitude of other uses. The meat is also another export opportunity in countries that have little money or food shortages. It makes more sense to send this food instead of cash to the poorer countries where people are starving instead of wasting it. With the vast areas of perfectly usable land in Australia doing nothing, it could easily be used for growing food to feed the over populated countries that don't have the soil quality or land space for growing their own. Our deepest oceans are deeper than our tallest mountains. We have global warming, that is melting our polar icecaps. The polar icecaps melting is making our ocean levels deeper. The planet is ravaged by wild ferocious weather with floods or by droughts for years on end. The balance of the climate and weather patterns are changing, and man urgently needs to fix the destruction he has done before it is too late. Modern man has been so destructive by the mass defoliation of the planet. By stripping the planet of the foliage it has upset the balance of nature. Trees make the rain and clean the air, trees and rain forests are the lungs of the planet, without the trees and forests man will not survive. We have more than enough water on the planet, its just not managed properly. The first easy fix solution to being able to have pure fresh, chemical free drinking water is to desalinate ocean water via reverse osmosis, there is no added toxins like there is in chemical toxic soup water from dams that have up to 22 different chemicals added to it to make it hygienic and clear looking enough to be acceptable to drink. Some the the added chemicals include, caustic soda, hydrochloric acid, chlorine bleach, fluoride. Fluoride might make your teeth tough, but how tough and hard do you want your veins, and your intestines. What do we really know about the long term effects of prolonged exposure to some of these very toxic chemicals. Other things found in dam water include, lead, mercury, cadmium, aluminum, herbicides, insecticides, and all sorts of potentially deadly bacteria. .RE-VEGETATION By re vegetating the huge expanse of the cleared areas of Australia will have a profound effect not only on Australia, but the rest of the world will also feel and see the positive benefits. We know that the harsh arid inland areas were once rain forests thousands of years ago, and its totally feasible to bring life back to some of the worst regions, but at the same time care must be taken to not destroy the natural flora and fauna as our those before us have done, too many vital species of plant and animals have been made extinct due to mass clearing without researching these areas first, it is our responsibility to try and repair the damage done and not do any further damage to our planet. At the same time re-vegetating these cleared forest areas, it will also improve the rainfall over the rest of the country. A little bit of trivia about Jarrah, less than 2% of the worlds cut Jarrah is in Australia, and it only comes from South Western Australia. Another startling fact that is often hidden from the public is how long it takes for these ancient rainforest's to fully regenerate back to what they were before being clear felled. It takes approximately 3000 years to get back to what it was before man destroyed it. This is because it does not just have to regrow the trees, but the careful balance of nature has to rebuild, trees need to grow old and die off due to old age to be able to provide the animal habitat, trees need to rot down to allow the fungi, mosses and insects to do their jobs in re-creating the all the complex organisms that make up the soil and nutrients that are the vital basis of the ecology and environment. I think and feel that man has no right to cut down any tree he cannot re-grow in his life time. Yet man has continually cut down trees many thousands of years old, and destroyed forests that has forced the extinction of huge amounts of flora and fauna that we never even discovered and researched before it was lost forever. To rebuild the soil quality, the simplest and cheapest way would be to pump the raw sewerage there that is normally dumped into the ocean. The amount of raw sewerage and pollution dumped into the oceans is more shockingly horrendous than you can imagine. Why waste all that organic matter to pollute the ocean when we can clean and purify it by using it to feed or fertilize the trees that will give us the much needed rain. The most profound effect of re-creating the rain forest is that the amount of 'transpiration' will create moisture in the air, thus making the air heavier, forming clouds, and slowing down the wind speeds and that will reduce the destruction it causes. The effect on the overall climate will be that it will less harsh in both summer and winter making it more successful and profitable for the farming and agricultural community. with obvious benefit to the economy. | |
